An abstract composition by Angelo Savelli, an Italian-born artist known for his modernist and abstract works. Savelli often explored color contrasts, geometric divisions, and expressive brushwork, which is reflected here in the juxtaposition of vivid red and deep blue fields, separated by a jagged, multicolored vertical band. Using color fields–the large areas of red on the left and dark blue on the right–with a vertical strip of fragmented, angular shapes in black, white, yellow, orange, and blue, this work explores form, color, and composition and is prototypical of Savelli’s mid-20th-century work, where he experimented with bold contrasts and dynamic arrangements.
