Philip Ratner

American (Washingtonian)

1937 – 2023

Philip Joel Ratner was educated at the Pratt Institute and earned his master’s degree from American University’s art program. He taught in the Washington, DC, area for more than 20 years. And he can boast of enormous success as an artist, with works in the permanent collections of the Statue of Liberty Museum, the US Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Boston University, Hillel House in London, Rutgers University, Chicago’s Spertas Museum, Brandeis University, the West Point Chapel, and The Vatican. Along with his brother Dennis (who runs the family business operating nearly 1,000 salons under the Hair Cuttery, Bubbles, and other brand names), Ratner founded the Ratner Museum just outside of Washington, DC, and the Israel Bible Museum in Safed, Israel.
