Description
Rotation is a bright and engaging work typical of Larry Zox’s color field artwork. Zox was a leading artist in the generation of painters who followed the Abstract Expressionists. While Zox was often referred to as an Abstract artist but he considered himself to be a Colorist, aligning himself with the Color Field movement. Rotation typifies Zox’s approach to color block and hard-edged abstraction. Zox began his ‘Rotation’ series in 1963 to use a standardized geometrical compositional schema as the basis for a series of paintings each different in color. Some of the compositions, suggesting overlapping, bending etc., were evolved with the aid of plywood and perspex reliefs.
